The GS 450h is equipped with a sophisticated range of class-leading
active and passive safety systems including up to ten airbags (SRS
front airbags, front knee airbags, side airbags and full-length side
curtain airbags), the intelligent Adaptive Front Lighting System
(i-AFS) which swivels the High Intensity Discharge (HID) dipped
headlamps through up to 15 degrees to illuminate bends, and a Tyre
Pressure Warning System (TPWS) which detects loss of pressure in
tyres.

The second-generation of Lexus' unique Vehicle Dynamics Integrated
Management system (VDIM) is integral to the advanced safety
features of the GS 450h. By combining the vehicle's Anti-lock Brakes
(ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Traction Control
(TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Electronic Power
Steering (EPS) and Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS), the system
optimises braking, stability and traction before they reach their limits
thereby expanding the performance threshold and allowing for safer
driving.

The GS 450h is also equipped with the Pre-Crash Safety System
(PCS). The car is fitted with a millimetre-wave radar sensor that
detects obstacles in front of the car. This is linked to a pre-collision
system computer that determines in advance the likelihood of a
collision. In the unlikely event of an unavoidable collision, the system
will pre-emptively tighten the front seatbelts and adjust Emergency
Brake Assist for maximum braking force and, therefore, minimum
collision speed.
